How can Connecticut's defending national champions top last year's dominance?

The University of Connecticut men's basketball team won the NCAA Tournament last year, winning six games and averaging 20 points per game. They hope to defend their national title, but it will be a challenge.

Here are some goals the Huskies can set for themselves this season:

Win the Big East Tournament for the first time since 2011.
Win a regular season title of any kind (Big East or AAC) for the first time since 2006.
Beat a ranked opponent on the road for the first time in a decade.
Become the first team to defend a national title since the Billy Donovan-led Florida Gators in 2006 and 2007.
The Huskies have been targeted for being the most successful team in the last 25 years, winning five national championships. They were ranked sixth in the Associated Press preseason poll, but third in the Big East.

Head coach Dan Hurley uses this to motivate his players. He displayed cardboard replicas of the various trophies Connecticut could win this season at practice. He also reminded his players that they have yet to be voted by the Big East media as the best player on the first-team.

The Huskies are eager to prove themselves again this season. They have a lot of talented players, including returning starters Adama Sanogo, Andre Jackson Jr. and RJ Cole. They also have a talented freshman class led by preseason Big East second team recruit Donovan Klingen.

The Huskies will face tough opponents in the Big East this season in Villanova, Creighton and Marquette. But they are confident of repeating as national champions.
